M-Pesa VAT Reconciler

Paste your M-Pesa statement and get the output VAT hiding in it. We flag which deposits are real sales, extract 16% VAT (16/116 from inclusive prices), and total your charges — a clean reconciliation for your VAT3 return. Nothing is uploaded; the parsing happens in your browser.

100% private: parsing runs entirely in your browser. Your statement never leaves this device — no upload, no storage.

Why reconcile M-Pesa against your VAT return?

1 · Sales you forgot

Money hitting your Paybill is easy to lose track of when invoice records live in a notebook. The reconciler lists every inflow so nothing undeclared slips into the next period.

2 · VAT you extract correctly

M-Pesa notifications show gross amounts. KRA wants the VAT component: 16/116 of an inclusive price. Extracting it line-by-line is exactly what the tool automates.

3 · Mismatches KRA sees

KRA matches Paybill and Till data against filed returns. Filing nil while M-Pesa shows sales is the fastest route to an assessment — reconcile before you file instead.

How to use the reconciler

  1. 1

Get your statement. In the M-Pesa app: My Account → M-Pesa Statement, or from Safaricom's statement portal. Download the Full Statement CSV — or open the PDF and copy all text.

  2. 2

Paste or upload it above. The parser reads both the official CSV layout (Paid In / Withdrawn columns) and raw PDF text. Nothing is uploaded — it runs in your browser.

  3. 3

Review the flags. Bank transfers, M-Shwari movements and reversals are auto-excluded. Tap any row to re-classify it — the VAT figure updates as you go.

  4. 4

Copy your summary. Paste the reconciliation into your filing notes, then declare the output VAT on your VAT3 return before the 20th.

M-Pesa VAT: frequently asked questions

Does KRA tax M-Pesa sales?

Yes. If you are VAT-registered, Paybill and Till receipts are payments for taxable supplies and belong on your return. KRA receives merchant Paybill and Till data from Safaricom and matches it against what you file — undeclared M-Pesa sales are among the most common triggers for VAT assessments and Special Table listings.

How do I extract VAT from an M-Pesa amount?

If the price you quoted already included VAT, the VAT component is 16/116 of the amount — roughly 13.79%. KES 35,000 in, for example, contains KES 4,827.59 of VAT. If your prices exclude VAT, add 16% on top. The tool applies whichever convention you choose to every sale you flag.

Can I claim input VAT on M-Pesa charges?

The charges embed 16% VAT, but only a proper eTIMS tax invoice supports the claim — a statement line does not. Ask Safaricom for monthly eTIMS invoices covering your M-Pesa charges and file them with your VAT records. The reconciler totals your charges so you know what to request.

Is my statement safe here?

Completely. The reconciler is a static page — there is no backend, no upload, no storage. All parsing happens in your browser's memory, and closing the tab discards everything. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
